The Benefits of Pre-Natal Massage

Happy anticipation always accompany a pregnancy, but stress can also lurk in the life of an expectant mother. Don't let physical or emotional strain put a damper on the elation of your nine months.

At The Well for Women, we welcome you with open arms and are committed to giving you superior prenatal massages. We offer a broad spectrum of knowledge to our clients, many of whom are awaiting their bundle of joy. Each massage is customized to your needs.

There are many benefits to pre-natal massages. They can reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, and relieve muscle aches and joint pains. Massage aims to relax muscle tension and improve lymphatic and blood circulation through mild pressure applied to the muscle groups of the body. Skeletal and circulatory changes can be brought on by hormone shifts. Hormone levels associated with relaxation and stress are significantly altered when massage therapy is introduced to prenatal care. This leads to mood regulation and improved cardiovascular health.

Edema (swelling of the joints) is often caused by reduced circulation and increased pressure on the major blood vessels by the heavy uterus. Massage helps to stimulate soft tissues to reduce the collection of fluids in swollen joints.

Many women experience sciatic nerve pain late in their pregnancies because the uterus rests on muscles of the pelvic floor and lower back. The pressure of the uterus spreads tension to the muscles of the upper and lower legs, causing them to swell and exert pressure on nearby nerves. Massage therapy helps to release tension on close muscles.
